It is not even clearly known whether he holds Indian citizenship – VHP
Hyderabad: The Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) of Telangana unit condemned the state government’s decision to conduct the funeral of Mukarram Jah, the titular Nizam VIII of erstwhile princely State of Hyderabad, with official honours. VHP stated it insulted the sacrifices of those who took part in the struggle against Nizam’s rule.
Sri Balaswamy, Organising Secretary, Telangana VHP, said, “We are condemning the state funeral of Mukkram as he never stepped in the country after the independence of Telangana. It is not even clearly known whether he holds Indian citizenship.”
Condemning the Telangana state government’s decision, BJP MLA M. Raghunandan Rao said that honouring the descendant of the Nizams, under whose rule people of Telangana suffered and were victimised, was tantamount to honouring those who stood against Telangana. “Government has discarded the memory of 1,200 Telangana martyrs with the decision and that it insulted the memories of Prof. S. Jayashankar and Konda Laxman Bapuji, who fought for Telangana’s statehood”, he added.
Bahujan Left Front (BLF) state convener Dandi Venkat said that the people of Telangana fought against the atrocities of Razakars as the then Nizam government killed around 4,000 guerrilla fighters. “The BRS government justified the atrocities of the Nizam government by its latest decision of state honours for Mukarram Jah,” he said.
Mukkaram Jah, former titular Nizam of Hyderabad, had recently passed away in Turkey. He was born in France on 6 October 1933.
