International preacher Saqib Iqbal Shami’s event cancelled citing Visa Violation

Following the multiple complaints from various organisations, Warangal Police reportedly stopped the scheduled religious event in the city to be addressed by Pakistan-linked Islamic preacher Saqib Iqbal Shami’s religious congregation.

The Legal Rights Protection Forum, in its complaint to the Ministry of Home Affairs stated that the government of India does not issue visas to religious preachers who desire to visit India to participate in religious campaigns and religious activities. LRPF asked the concerned authorities to take necessary actions.

Warangal unit of the Vishwa Hindu Parishat (VHP) also lodged a complaint with Warangal Police Commissioner urging them to prevent the Islamic preacher Saqib Iqbal Shami’s tour that is in violation of Indian Visa provisions.

International Islamic Scholar Saqib Iqbal Shami, born in Pakistan Occupied Kashmir and said to have residence in Karachi. He reportedly acquired citizen of Britain, was supposed to attend an event at the Azam Jahi Mill grounds on Saturday. Saqib Iqbal Shami was in India since January 26 to attend religious events in various cities including Delhi, Mumbai and Bangalore.

Speaking to Nijamtoday, LRPF said there are several incidents in the past where foreigners deliberately used to violate the Indian laws. But now due to better awareness among the citizens they are approaching the security authorities for necessary action. It is suspected that several foreign religious leaders visit India with agenda driven motives and they try find to rogue elements that act as per their directions, which is a threat to national security.

As per the latest report, the official Facebook page of the Saqib Iqbal Shami has removed all the posters linked with his Indian tour.
