National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) team was attacked at Jadavpur in West Bengal, that is visiting the post poll violence hit areas. The NHRC team is in the state as per court directive to investigate the violence.
The visiting NHRC Committee, led by Mr. Rajiv Jain, Member of the Commission was scheduled to interact with the different stakeholders on 29th June, 2021 from 10 am till 1 pm on the issues and complaints related to poll related violence in West Bengal.
Responding to this attack, the BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari in tweet said “Democracy is going to the ruins in Bengal. The State apparatus is hell bound on establishing dictatorship in WB”.
A Court directed investigation being conducted by the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) team, was attacked at Jadavpur. Democracy is going to the ruins in Bengal.

According to the High Court’s directives, the NHRC Committee would investigate all incidences of post-election violence in West Bengal for which complaints have been filed or may be filed with the National Human Rights Commission.
Earlier, NHRC in its statement appealed to Victims/Complainants, irrespective of their Caste/Creed/Religion/Gender/Ethnicity /Political affiliation etc to meet the NHRC Committee Members and give their representations.
