Relatives of Giyaz Uddin attempts to lynch a duty doctor in Assam

An incident of brutal attack on a doctor on Covid duty in Assam has come to light. Dr. Seuj kumar Senapati, doctor on duty at Udali Covid Care Centre, District Hojai, Assam was attacked by attendants and relatives of a patient Giyaz Uddin who passed away at the centre.Video of the incident sent shockwave across the nation.

Condemning the incident, the Assam Medical Services Association(AMSA) is going for OPD boycott all over Assam in protest for against the incident till all person arrest. In a press release the AMSA said “We are going to withdraw OPD services tomorrow (2nd June) so that people realise the importance. If next time any such incident occurs happened to assault any health workers, we will immediately cease all services all over the state.” they further added.

Hojai Superintendent of Police Barun Purkayastha had told that a seriously infected patient with the corona virus died on Tuesday afternoon at the Udali Kovid Care Center. He had told on Tuesday, “Soon after the death of the patient, a group of his relatives and his acquaintances reached there and started beating the doctor. After getting information about the incident, our team reached the spot and arrested three people. Further investigation of the matter is going on.”

Special DGP (Law and Order) Gyanendra Pratap Singh said that the main accused, conspirators, including a woman seen in the video, have been arrested. “We will file a strong charge sheet in the shortest possible time and ensure that the accused are brought to justice,” he said on social media.

In a series of tweets, the Chief Minister of Assam, Sri Himanta Biswa Sarma said:

The video of the incident went viral on social media, in which some people including women are seen beating a doctor. Condemning the incident, all political parties have demanded the government to take strict action against the culprits.

 

Meanwhile, the Assam Medical Services Association (AMSA) announced that its members would protest against the incident and boycott OPD services across Assam on Wednesday. At the same time, the Indian Medical Association wrote a letter to Union Home Minister Amit Shah and termed the attack on Senapati as “extremely inhuman” and demanded swift action against the culprits.
