The unrest about the unfortunate incidents of damage to murtis in temples is continuing in Andhra Pradesh. Even while the angst over the destruction of the Sri Rama murti in the Ramatirtha mandiram in Vizianagaram district, is yet to subside, a new incident has caused further furore.

The murtis adorning the mukhadwaram at the Lakshmi Narasimha Swami – Singaraya Konda, Prakasam district were seen to have been damaged. These are the murtis of Sri Lakshmi Narasimha Swami, Sri Rajyalakshmi Devi and Sri Garutman. The villagers who noticed this damage in the morning rushed to inform the local police station.

The local police, having examined the damage closely, concluded that no mischief was involved in the incident. The mukhadwaram is an old structure and so it had naturally deteriorated; consequently some chips have fallen off the statues, was their judgement. They issued a stern warning against spreading false rumors in this regard.
